Historical Re-Use and Re-Cycle

This amazing example of early Portland architecture spent many years as a private mortuary and as the Multnomah County Morgue. Our clients purchased the property with hopes of converting the historical building to their private medical practice. Dr. Hanson is a great dermatologist and his practice is expanding at such a rate that we were hired to design new exam and procedure rooms to the unfinished basement level. We also moved the staff kitchen to the second floor and created new medical offices on the main level.

Considering the basement (and access) were completely unfinished, the task proved challenging. I’m attaching some ‘before’ photos for the full effect.

Dr. Hanson and his team at Knott Street Dermatology are located at 301 NE Knott Street in Portland.

The Daily Journal of Commerce published an article on the completed project. See the recent article  here (http://djcoregon.com/news/2009/11/06/holah-design-architecture-knott-street-dermatology/).
